    Nomination Application

    The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce is a not for profit organization as defined in Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. As such, we are governed by a Board of Directors, comprised of 21 members, each serving a 3-year term. A nominating committee comprised of the outgoing board members(as well as Past Chair, Chair and Chair elect) compiles a list of potential board candidates, who are voted on during the September board meeting, announced at the October board meeting and begin their 3 year term at the January installation event.

    By-Law Ref.: Section 4: SELECTION AND ELECTION OF DIRECTORS, Paragraph (e) Nomination by Application-“During the month of July, all Chamber media will advertise the opportunity to submit nominees by application. Nominees must be in good standing with their Chamber membership. Nomination applications must be presented on an official form provided by the Chamber. The nomination application must be witnessed by the individual submitting the nomination and seconded by another Chamber member in good standing. Nominations will be submitted to the Chair of the Board and the President/CEO of the Chamber for consideration and forwarding to the Nomination committee. All nominations must be submitted by July 31st in order to receive consideration.

    Board Member Commitments

    Serving on the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is an opportunity to stand out as a leader in this community and to grow personally and professionally. The Chamber Board is a working Board and it is very important to the volunteers of all of the Chamber committees to see Board members participating and being a part of what the Chamber is doing. Because you are considered key leaders, there are certain expectations you should consider before making the decision to participate on the Board of Directors. Although you will not be able to attend everything every month, every effort should be made to participate at a minimal level at the least in the following areas.

    Monthly Commitments:

    • Attend Board meetings each fourth Thursday of the month
    • Board members must be able to attend at least 10 of the 12 meetings per year during their 3 year term. Each Board member is invoiced $240 at the beginning of each year to pay for monthly Board meeting catering costs.
    • First Friday Coffee
    • Business After Hours
    • Attend at least one committee meeting (preferably a different one each month to familiarize yourself with each of the different committees)

    Additional Expectations:

    • Participation on festival committees
    • Attend special events/festivals
    • Participation in Member Appreciation Day (members are split up among Board members and you spend a day going out to visit all on your list and thank them for being a Chamber member)
    • Attend a minimum of 2 Luncheon (Featured Restaurant or Networking Luncheon) events per year
    • Attend a minimum of 2 New Member Luncheons per year
    • Sponsorship of Chamber events (either directly or through your company or contacts you have)
