Vetrnaetr, also known as "Winternights" in Old Norse, is a festival that takes place during the month of October. Because of the regional weather, the actual dates varied, but it is believed to be between October 30-Nov 2. Vetrnaetr marked the end of summer, the start of winter, and the beginning of the new year.
Many people associate pre-Christian Scandinavia and Norse mythology with Vikings and with Halloween and Emerald Coast Con being held literally within days of each other, hosting this event would give people more of a reason to come out and participate in a new event.
Vetrnaetr is going to be more of a costume party than a historical reenactment as we just want to bring something new and fun to FWB and if it is a success, we'd like to do it once a year! The event will feature a costume contest, axe throwing, Viking games, and a raffle contest which will feature a custom made axe from a FWB local who was featured on the show Forged in Fire.
We also understand that there will be other events being held during this time in downtown FWB and would love to be participants in any pub crawls or similar festivals that may benefit both parties. We are looking to make this a pre-party.
