    • About

Destin Harvest (DH) Bridges the Gap Between Food Surplus and Local Hunger by delivering large volumes of food donations daily at no cost to 39 food programs within Okaloosa and Walton Counties in Northwest Florida. Recipient programs include soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, after school programs, meals-on-wheels, and even subsidized mental health clinics. On average, DH distributes over 150k pounds of food to feeding programs each month to these programs collectively.

DH secures donated meats, fruits, vegetables, non-perishables, frozen foods, dairy, deli, and bakery items with refrigerated trucks from 29 retail stores including Publix, Wal Mart, Winn Dixie, Whole Foods, Target, Fresh Market, Sam's, and other retailers. The foods provided by the stores are generally in excellent condition and can weigh between 500 - 5,000 pounds per location. DH then delivers the foods the same day for free to local recipient nonprofits. DH trucks operate six days a week, Monday through Saturday.

DH also sources semi-truck loads of free foods from Feeding the Gulf Coast to designated sites for county-wide food distributions. Collaborating with community volunteers, law enforcement, and staff at established sites, DH will receive and stage over 35k pounds of food to load into 300 - 400 vehicles.

In 2023, DH distributed over 1.59 million lbs. of meat, produce, bakery, canned, and other items to non-profit food programs in Northwest Florida. The cost per pound for DH in 2023 was 18 cents.

Food programs in Northwest Florida rely greatly on DH’s weekly deliveries to meet a growing demand of needs from their clients. Many recipient non-profits operate entirely off DH’s weekly deliveries for their food programs and provide weekly or bi-weekly boxes and bags for up to 500 – 1000 people a month. The service DH provides to local nonprofit food programs is a lifeline to thousands of struggling families and households.
